A real photo comes first
Since 22 October 2026 Etsy asks pattern listings for at least one real, unaltered photo of the stitched piece. Gridaboo's mockups are secondary images that sit after your photo, never a replacement for it.
Your own design
Etsy wants original designs. Ready-made designs are starting points: change the palette, the level, the words or press New variation, and edit stitches by hand before you list.
No generative AI
Etsy no longer allows AI-generated patterns. Gridaboo builds every chart with algorithms from your settings, in your browser.

Checked before you sell it
A pattern can look fine on screen and still be a chore to stitch. Gridaboo checks every pattern before it exports, and an error stops the download until it is fixed.

Size in inches = stitches ÷ fabric count. The cover also suggests how much fabric to cut and a hoop size.

Is this a subscription?
No. Gridaboo Studio is one payment of $27. After checkout you will see optional upgrades, each with a "No thanks" link; you do not need any of them to use the Studio.
Can I sell the patterns I make?
Yes. The commercial licence covers the PDFs and images you make, and finished stitched pieces. You may not resell the app itself, its motif library or its ready-made designs unchanged.
Do I need to know how to draw pixel art?
No. Each pattern type builds the design for you from your settings, a photo, a name or a library motif. You can still edit stitches by hand.
Does it use AI?
No generative AI. Patterns are built by algorithms in your browser from your choices, and your photos stay on your computer.
Can I sell the ready-made designs as they are?
No. Ready-made designs are starting points: change them before you sell. Etsy requires original designs, and the Gridaboo licence already forbids reselling ready-made designs unchanged.
Do I still need to stitch a sample?
For Etsy, yes: since 22 October 2026 a pattern listing needs at least one real, unaltered photo of the stitched piece. Gridaboo Studio includes Stitch Proof: a small section of your pattern as its own PDF, so the sample for your photo is quick to stitch.
How many motifs and palettes are there?
Today the Studio has 12 pattern types, 215 library motifs and 18 palettes. The Motif Vault upgrade adds 89 motifs and 8 palettes. Motif-based types also generate their own variations from a seed.
Which thread brand does it use?
DMC stranded cotton. Every colour in the floss key has its DMC number and name.
What do I get after I buy?
An email with your login. Gridaboo opens inside your Nova AI Platform account; if you already have one with the same email, Gridaboo is added to it.
